A Gravity powered Lamp that runs without Electricity

GravityLight, a new gravity powered LED lamp that runs without electricity and costs lesser than a kerosene lamp with incredible ecofriendly stats for developing countries

While we enjoy the bright lights at night to carry on our chores without being disrupted by the time of the day, there are several million people in developing countries who still live their life without proper electricity and have to depend on hazardous and unhealthy kerosene lamps and other costly alternatives. However it seems their life’s without electricity is going to witness a major change with science’s latest invention

The Gravitylight - It is a gravity powered led lamp that provides lighting without using any type of batteries, sunlight or electricity. The simple gravitylight works on the principle of weights and gears and costs a mere amount of $5-$10 which is a lot cheaper and reliable than a kerosene lamp.

The GravityLight prototype is designed by London based designers Martin Riddiford and Jim Reeves with sole purpose of providing people with an alternative and affordable source of light to kerosene lamps which has many demerits.

How does GravityLight Work?

GravityLight is a simple pulley system that converts added weights potential energy into kinetic energy which in turn is used by the installed LED light to convert it into free and clean energy. The gravity powered lamp has a cable hanging from a gear mechanism holding onto a plastic bag which can be filled with dirt, rocks or sand (12 kg or more). The gravity pull on the added weight creates enough power to light the LED bulb for up to half an hour or more depending upon how high the weight is raised through the pulley.

The weight pull drives sprocket and polymer geartrain fueling the dc generator inside to produce electricity . The gravity lamp produces an amount of 176 joules on a

weight lift of 10kg on the pulley which is enough to illuminate a 100sq-foot room for half an hour which can be restored back by pulling the weight again after it has descended down due to gravity, giving you an unlimited source of energy without having to depend on keeping a backup when power goes off, just pull the weight again and you get 30 minutes of free energy to utilize again.

Advantages of GravityLight

• No Fuel/No recurring costs – Since the gravitylight doesn’t require any type of traditional energy source, it has no need for a fuel and thus has no recurring costs unlike kerosene or battery powered lamps.
• Inexpensive/Affordable – The gravity lamp costs a mere $5 to $10 and hardly requires anything else, just put on some weights and you get light that beats a traditional kerosene lamp. Unlike bulky and expensive energy sources this lamp requires zero maintenance.
• Environment Friendly – The gravitylight unlike artificial lights doesn’t attract mosquitoes and has no negative health effects and since it doesn’t use any type of fuel it has zero emissions unlike the tons of carbon dioxide and harmful gases produced by kerosene and battery lamps. Also they are non-hazardous compared to kerosene lamps in case of fire accidents and since they are so portable they have absolutely no worries about getting disposed making them a great environmental friendly product.

• Gravity lamp vs. Solar energy – Unlike solar batteries which store energy only when sun shines and are highly expensive and voluminous, the gravity powered lamps work in all conditions and situations irrespective of the weather outside and are highly inexpensive and portable.

It was traveler husband and wife duo Christian LeBlanc on their tour to whole of east Asia who stumbled upon a bunch of elephants at Koh Pangan, Thailand, where they decided to buy one of the elephants a basket of bananas and the next thing they know is the elephant reaching out to Christian's mounted GoPro camera which was set on automatic continuous shoot mode resulting in an incredible photo moment of having a selfie with an elephant, inventing the new trending hashtag Elphie among the animal kingdom.

But apparently for travel enthusiast Christian LeBlanc the selfie clicked by elephant pachyderm wasn't that big of a shock who suspected it was elephants natural intelligence or curiosity to use the mounted GoPro like a selfie stick just like other tourists would do.

Bobcat catches a 4 foot shark and drags it off the water

Well they say whenever you witness a shark on the beach, make sure to get out of the waters as quickly as possible but apparently no one ever though of confronting one and taking it home without even using a fishing rod or a bait to fish it out of the waters.

Well this was the case with this rare wildlife encounter caught on camera where in a huge bobcat was witnessed attacking a 4 foot long shark at the Sebastian Inlet State Park near Vero Beach in Florida and dragged its catch off the waters as the entire moment was witnessed and captured by on vacation photographer John Bailey.

Photographer John Bailey apparently was taking an evening stroll through Sebastian Inlet State Park in Vero Beach when he spotted a huge bobcat keenly staring at the water. Curious and a bit scared John Bailey slowly moved closer to the bobcat to find out what the cat was up to where he discovered that the wildcat was apparently watching a shark in the shallows waters of the beach when it suddenly made a move for the shark as it swiftly jumped into the waters and caught the shark by it's tail and dragged the fish off the waters.

The bobcat was pretty quick at grabbing, snatching and pulling out the shark which didn't give John Bailey any time to capture it on his camera and furthermore he hadn't brought his camera to the beach but he knew it was once a lifetime opportunity to shooting to fame as a photographer so John Bailey switched to his Iphone to capture the bobcat holding its catch and dragging the struggling 4 foot shark.

Apparently in the process of capturing the bobcat catch a shark, John went in too close to the big cat which apparently scared the bobcat as it dropped his catch and made a run into the forests.

While John Bailey who had no intention of scaring the bobcat or steal his catch was sad about bobcat dropping off his fish, he had greater things to cherish as he immediately shot to fame with his photo of a bobcat walking along the beach with a shark in its mouth as the photo went viral on the internet, especially among wildlife experts and organizations.

Wildlife experts said it was a really rare encounter of actually capturing a bobcat preying on a shark, although it's quite common for typical bobcats to often prey in the waters what was rare was actually capturing it on camera as bobcats often prefer solitary environments which makes it very difficult to capture one in action.

While others had doubts about photo being fake, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission made it pretty clear that the photo was genuine and was one of the rarest encounters ever caught on camera. Hmm bobcat huh? Oh great am happy with my cats and dogs, No beach holidays for me in Florida. :P What about you? Meanwhile Father of one of the students who was equally surprised as everyone else at this 11 year old's artistic talent, captured the pictures of the boy drawing the world map and uploaded them on internet where the incredible feat went viral via Reddit as everyone was applauding the boy's talent.

Since his teenage years he has been traveling the world sketching famous buildings and cities with one of his incredible feats being drawing the entire London cityscape by just looking at the whole city for once in a mere 15 minute ride on an helicopter which earned him the title the human camera.

Certainly these geniuses hold the key to unlocking numerous possibilities that can't be seen by normal humans and although they lack the key to social interactions their talents certainly open the gates to vast amount of knowledge and creativity which create the social bonds through intelligence.
